Steam for Acne

How can Steam Help to Clear up Acne?

It can be frustrating to try one method after another to clear up your acne problems without results. Before you give up though or go buy one more product off the shelve at the store you may want to try steam to help clear it up. It works because it allows your pores to open up.

This means there won’t be as much dirt, debris, or bacteria clogged under them. When your face is exposed to steam it results in these items being removed from under the pores and from your face. This occurs as you sweat so make sure you remain exposed to the steam long enough for that to happen.

The process is also going to result in oxygen circulating through your body faster. As a result the blood in your body that contains nutrients is going to be brought to the top layer of your skin.

Types of Steam you can Use

There are a couple of different types of steam you can use in order to get the results. The most common is a steam room. They are available at most country clubs and gyms. This is the process that will give you the most benefit. However, not everyone has access to a steam room.

You can turn the hot water on in your shower and then sit in there while the mirrors steam up. This won’t be as effective as a steam room but better than nothing at all. It is also very convenient as you can do it right in your home and then get into the shower afterwards.

There are products you can buy at retailers though for home use called facial steamers. You will add water to a location in it and allow it to heat up. Then you will place your face in front of the release where the steam is coming out for a set period of time.

How Much Steam do you Need?

The amount of steam you will need to be exposed to depends on how severe the acne is. You should be able to see results after a couple of weeks though. It is a good idea to be exposed to the steam at least three or four times a week. You don’t want to do it daily though as this can end up aggravating your acne problems.

Tips to get the Most from the Steam Process

You will need to be following some other guidelines too in order for steam to help clear up your acne. As soon as you are done with the steam process you need to take a good shower. This is going to ensure all of the debris that has been loosened up from your face does get washed away rather than lingering.

Make sure you wash your face thoroughly at least twice a day with a mild soap. Pat it dry to remove the excess water. Make sure all of the soap gets removed or it can end up clogging your pores. You also need to drink a large amount of water each and every day to keep those toxins flushed out of your body.

Safety

It is very important that you pay attention to your body when you use a steam room or steam up the bathroom. If you begin to feel lightheaded you need to remove yourself immediately. For most people five or ten minutes is plenty.

With the at home facial steamers you need to follow the directions precisely. Don’t use water that is too hot or use the equipment for longer than it says to. You don’t want to end up getting burned by the steam so pay close attention to what those directions for use tell you.
