Natural Treatments For Pimples

If you’re like millions of other teenagers, you have a
pimple or two. You start getting pimples as you get closer
to adulthood and your hormones change. Some people have
pimples even as adults. Such is the case with me - I am 31
and I still get zits!

Here is what I have learned about zits over the years:

The less makeup you wear, the better. Makeup clogs your
pores and gives you more pimples. The thing is, that most
girls wear makeup to cover up their skin blemishes. And then
the makeup causes more zits. It’s a vicious cycle. I’m not
saying don’t wear any makeup at all, but steer away from
foundation. It’s okay to wear eye makeup and lipstick. If
you must, use a tinted moisturizer. This is lighter than
foundation and less likely to clog your pores. If you want
to cover up a zit, use a dab of concealer. Make sure you
wash it off before you go to bed.

Wash your face twice a day. Don’t use soap; it dries out
your skin. Instead, use a cleanser for acne. You can buy one
at Wal-Mart or online. The ones that work really good have
“salicylic acid” listed as an ingredient. You can also use a
scrub. A scrub is a cleanser that is a gritty paste. It
“scrubs” away the dead skin cells on your face, revealing
the fresh new skin underneath.

Wipe your face with a cotton ball dipped in toner after
you’ve washed it. You can buy toner along with your facial
cleanser. I recommend using Witch Hazel, which is a cheap
natural toner that’s good for your skin. You can buy that at
Wal-Mart too. Some people use rubbing alcohol as a toner,
but that burns.

Unless you have dry skin, don’t put lotion on your face, no
matter what the magazines say. Lotion clogs pores. Now,
there are some special creams for acne. Those are okay.

Once a week, use a face mask. Here is what I do: First I
steam my face. I boil water in a pot and then bend over it
with a towel over my head. The steam rises to my face, and
is trapped by the towel. I sit like that for 10 minutes or
so. Then I put on my face mask and let that dry, and then
rinse it off. The steaming opens my pores and the mask
cleans them out. Steaming is also good to do if you have a
cold.

Don’t pop your zits! I have scars all over my face now from
popping zits when I was a teenager. I really wish I hadn’t
done that. If I had left my face alone, my skin would look a
lot better now. Besides, if you leave your pimples alone,
they’ll go away in a week or so.

A really good book to read on acne is “Acne Free in 3 Days”.
The method explained in this book is the best way to remove
acne, in my opinion.
